Deltan Dallagnol
Biography (for quotation)
Deltan Dallagnol, born in Pato Branco, Paraná, in 1980, served as a federal prosecutor in Brazil for 18 years. From 2014 to 2020 he led the Curitiba task force of Operation Car Wash (Lava Jato), which recovered R$ 15 billion for public coffers, produced more than 250 convictions, and was recognized by the US Department of Justice as the largest foreign bribery case in history. He holds a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School. In 2022 he was elected federal deputy with 344,917 votes, the highest tally in Paraná. In 2023, Brazil's electoral court removed his mandate in a decision widely criticized by Brazilian legal scholars and major newspapers; no criminal conviction exists against him. He remains fully eligible and is running for the Senate in 2026.
